Recognising our recently promoted colleague, Dr Keira Watts, on International Women’s Day 2025!
In celebration of International Women’s Day, we sat down with Dr Keira Watts to discuss her career, her role at Biocomposites, and how the company collaborates with healthcare professionals to ensure its innovative products meet real-world clinical needs. Keira has been with Biocomposites for just over two years and was recently promoted to the role of Clinical Research Director.
As Clinical Research Director, what are some of the most rewarding and challenging aspects of your role at Biocomposites?
Biocomposites makes innovative products that have a real clinical benefit to patients. The most rewarding thing for me is being able to get these products used by more patients and in wider indications through clinical trials, which in the longer term will allow us to apply for approvals in new areas. I feel immensely lucky to work with the best colleagues that work on a shared goal of supporting patient care.
There are so many opportunities to develop our product portfolio so the biggest challenge is prioritising our activities and allocating resources efficiently to work on those areas that are key to our strategic direction.
How does Biocomposites collaborate with surgeons and healthcare professionals to ensure its products meet real-world clinical needs?
It is important that we have a positive relationships with surgeons and healthcare professionals to further our understanding of real world clinical needs. Access to information through conferences and the medical science liaison roles helps us keep up to date with the latest developments. We continually review new papers to see how our products have been used to meet the clinical needs of patients. We also try and ensure that we meet the needs of patients by engaging with key opinion leaders in the field, this allows us to design clinical studies and select indications for use that best align with real-world clinical needs to maximise the impact our products can have.
