Celebrating our colleague Dana Gergely on International Women’s Day 2026!

To mark International Women’s Day 2026, we’re spotlighting Dana Gergely, Director of Marketing, Americas at Biocomposites. With a background in materials science and experience across engineering, sales, and marketing, Dana shares what inspired her career in medical devices and her advice for women aspiring to leadership in science-led industries.

What inspired you to pursue a career in the medical device industry?

My education in Ceramic Engineering and Materials Science allowed me to initially learn about how biomaterials are used in medical applications. That exposure, along with an internship in the industry, helped me understand how meaningful medical devices can be in improving patients’ lives. I saw the medical device field as a rewarding path – one where the work we do every day supports surgeons and ultimately impacts patient outcomes. That sense of purpose is what led me into the industry and continues to motivate my career in medical marketing.

Biocomposites operates at the intersection of innovation and clinical need. How has your career prepared you to communicate complex science in a meaningful way?

My career has prepared me to communicate complex science by combining a technical foundation with extensive experience in marketing and product management. Working closely with clinicians and cross functional teams has helped me translate scientific concepts into clear, meaningful messages that highlight real clinical impact. This blend of technical understanding and marketing insight allows me to communicate innovation in a way that resonates with both clinical and non clinical audiences.

What message would you share with women aspiring to leadership roles in science-led industries?

My message to women aspiring to leadership roles in science led industries is to be proactive in pursuing your goals and continually building your knowledge. Shadowing others, exploring interests, and gaining exposure to different functions can help you discover what truly motivates you. My own path through engineering, sales, and marketing gave me a well rounded perspective that shaped the leader I am today. Now, as a people manager, I’m inspired by helping my team succeed and grow in their own careers. My advice is simple: stay committed, don’t be discouraged by challenges, and find mentors and colleagues who will support and champion you along the way.
